GREEN BUILDINGS

About LEED:

The LEED Green Building Rating System was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in 1998. LEED provides a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings and specifically focused on suitable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. www.usgbc.org

The Benefits of Green Buildings:
Economic Benefits
Save money by requiring less artificial heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation.

Environmental Benefits
Reduce green house gas emissions. By doing so, you contribute to healthier environment for families, residents, workers and the community.

Wallace & Smith LEED Experience:

In recent years Wallace & Smith has constructed the first project to become LEED Certified in the Central Valley. We had the opportunity to be involved in and build the only two (2) LEED Certified buildings in Bakersfield, CA. Our experience with LEED Projects allows us to implement the LEED Process from design through construction to Certification with the least impact to construction cost and schedule, thereby delivering the maximum benefit to the owner of an energy efficient and sustainable building.

Achieving LEED Certification for a Building requires that certain procedures be followed including:

  • Participating in LEED Charette for initial selection of attempted credits.
  • Feasibility study of proposed credits including life cycle/payback cost analysis for owner review.
  • Develop bidding procedures to ensure subcontractors are informed as to materials and methods required for LEED Certification.
  • Develop, implement and manage a Waste Diversion Program.
  • Coordinate all required subcontractor activities with Commissioning Agent to achieve Certification.
  • Review all material at submittal phase and at installation for compliance with LEED requirements. Assist in uploading all required documentation such as certifications, photos and spreadsheets to USGBC website to acquire LEED Certification.
